Five-tool player.
If Matt Scott II has his way at the upcoming New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series Main Event, that’s what you’ll walk away thinking you just saw.
Knowing, really.
The University of Texas commit is set to man the outfield for White Team this coming weekend, making a return to the Future Stars Series after first being seen three years ago.
“I first experienced Future Stars Series in 2020 while in 14U,” Scott said. “I throughly enjoyed the opportunity to compete at the highest level with a top-notch organization.”
Since then? A lot has changed. The tools have improved. The frame has grown to six-foot-four and 195 pounds. And the performances have gotten bigger, as his legend has grown with some monster showings this summer at some of amateur baseball’s more traditional big stops.
An exceptional athlete with elite bat speed and power that’s continuing to develop, he’ll be a very intriguing name to watch throughout the September 29-October 1 event, but particularly at Fenway Park, where his powerful swing from the right side might give its most unique characteristic a run for its money. But, at the end of the day, the Lonestar standout wants to show he’s a complete player to the scouts in attendance, as he continues to rise up boards and rankings for next summer’s 2024 MLB Draft.
“Excited to hit balls over the Green Monster,” Scott said. “Looking forward to showing all five tools.”
