A Florida Gulf Coast University commit, the toolsy 5-foot-9, 185-pound Charles Davalan is both a second baseman and outfielder, and is an interesting package for big league teams to potentially consider. He made the rounds on the travel ball circuit as a member of Canes Baseball in 2022, and boosted his stock in displaying his versatility, production and speed in a smaller frame.
FSS Event History: Davalan was seen as recently as February at the TNXL Academy and Canes Scout Day, where he bordered on showing as a plus-plus runner with 6.6 time in the 60-yard dash. The Quebec native earned multiple high future grades in being identified as a pro prospect, showing a solid approach at the plate with home run potential.
Current Ranking in Joe Doyle’s FSS Plus Top 600: 535
Joe Doyle on Charles Davalan:
Davalan was a bit of a pop up during the spring of 2023 after coming down to TNXL Academy from Canada. He’s not a big kid in stature, but he’s barrel-chested with a sweet left-handed swing, extending well and catching the ball out front and doing real damage. Davalan projects a second baseman at the next level where his range and arm best fit. He’s an average runner. Davalan will be north of 19.5 years old for this draft, so models won’t love his age, but he will be a draft-eligible sophomore in 2025 if he goes unselected. He is committed to Florida Gulf Coast.
