Mateo Gil continues to put together a strong first full professional season as he continues his climb up the St. Louis Cardinals farm system to the major leagues.
Just 19 years old, last year’s third-round draft pick has excelled with Johnson City at the rookie ball level, and recorded two-multi hit games over the past week, including a 2-for-5 performance on Sunday in which he hit a homer and had four RBI.
Gil was a participant in the inaugural International Week event held in Sugar Land, Texas in 2017.
Daniel Espino, who was a standout in the second installment of International Week at Camelback Ranch last year, has also quickly made a big impact in professional baseball in only a short amount of time. The first-round selection of the Cleveland Indians this past year dazzled in only his second career start in A-Ball, striking out nine batters in just four innings of work on Saturday while with Mahoning Valley in the New York-Penn League.
