PROGRAM 15, the Official Global Grassroots Player Identification and Development Program for New Balance Baseball, announces Baseball Operations Internship Program to prepare candidates for non-player roles in professional baseball organizations.
PROGRAM 15 and the New Balance Future Stars Series is taking their commitment to “Developing The Stars of Tomorrow” beyond on-field amateur baseball talent with the announcement of a new Baseball Operations Internship Program.
Led by Jeremy Booth, PROGRAM 15 Founder, CEO and President of Baseball Operations for The New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series, the internship is designed to provide a foundation for Major League Baseball careers in the roles of player evaluation, development, analytics, and baseball operations.
The first round of intern candidates were selected after Booth met with longtime colleague Tyrone Brooks, Senior Director, Front Office and Field Staff Diversity Pipeline Program at Major League Baseball for his recommendations to the program.
Booth says, “We’re very fortunate to have such qualified candidates. I remember what it’s like to want to work in baseball in ways other than playing. So much can help that process and accelerate a person’s growth by solidifying the foundation. Since my first year scouting, I’ve been a part of the Buck O’Neil Scouts and Coaches Association. In addition to Tyrone, Future Stars Series Advisory Board members Junior Vizcaino, Danny Montgomery, Kevin Bootay, Bobby Heck, Arnold Braithwaite and Dan Nellum are members as well. The message there has always been to pay it forward to the next wave and make it better, and if we can be a help to these young minds then we’re all in.”
Each intern candidate, which include former pro and college players along with those with analytic backgrounds, was vetted thoroughly by PROGRAM 15 with Brooks and Future Stars Series Advisory Board clubs. There are both short and long term opportunities available based on each candidate’s goals, development curve, and long term goals in baseball. Interns will be present with scouts and development staff at events and partner events across the country.
Kevin Bootay, Major League Scout with the Miami Marlins said, “Baseball is at a crossroads where the new generation of players, coaches and scouts should have a sense of the history of baseball as well as the feel and instincts to play the game. It is incumbent on mentors to pass this along to this new generation. PROGRAM 15 is at the forefront of this mission of sharing that knowledge.”
Future internship opportunities for college students as well as masters grads seeking a career in professional baseball operations are in development.
