Gavin Turley, who was one of the standouts of the 2019 New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series National Tournaments as a member of BPA, and later was impressive at the Arizona regional combine in 2021, has been selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 558th overall pick in the 19th round of the 2022 MLB Draft.
PICK ANALYSIS BY JEREMY BOOTH, CEO AND PRESIDENT OF THE NEW BALANCE BASEBALL FUTURE STARS SERIES: Gavin’s got top-five pick tools. The swing and miss is a concern. High school baseball is still high school baseball, the power is real, it’s all five raw tools. Whether he can really play or not, is to be determined. I haven’t seen enough of him to be able to make that decision, but what I can say is he was deserving of an early round draft on tools alone. Without a doubt, the reason why he fell is because the bonus demand I’m sure he put out was absurd for some of those questions…there were some questions around with Gavin around signability and some of the commitments that were made across the game. He’s got a chance to go to Oregon State and perform, and if he does, he’ll be a top two or three player selected in the draft three years from now.”
