A “true” alum of the New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series, the Baltimore Orioles found themselves with an absolute steal at the 107th overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft, taking catcher Silas Ardoin.
Ardoin has participated in numerous National Tournaments with the Future Stars Series, but is perhaps best known in FSS circles for his time at International Week in 2018, where he showed what he could do both behind the plate and as a hitter.
Ardoin, whose brother Sam just participated in the 2022 National Tournament as a member of Team Louisiana, recently spoke to the Future Stars Series about his path to become one of the best catching prospects in the Draft.
PICK ANALYSIS BY JEREMY BOOTH, CEO AND PRESIDENT OF THE NEW BALANCE BASEBALL FUTURE STARS SERIES: Everyday catcher, that’s the ceiling. I saw a couple reports where he’s got some swing and miss, but they finally got that down. He doesn’t. He really doesn’t swing and miss in the strike zone, which is really good. Doesn’t chase much. Can obviously catch and throw, I put him up against anyone in the country defensively. He has a chance to be a regular if the bat continues to trend the way it has. But he’s, at the very least, a major-league backup for a long time. And, I have to say this, he’s definitely going to be better than his dad, and I think Danny would agree with that.
