2023 Future Stars Series Main Event player profile: Adonys Velez

September 26, 2023

If Adonys Velez’s name was one you maybe hadn’t heard of in association with the New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series just yet, well…that makes some sense.

But you will.

As part of the game-changing new collaboration with Stack Sports that drew national headlines — one which includes the Area Code Games — Velez was seen by FSS CEO and president Jeremy Booth there, and, after being on the FSS radar for some time as it is, the Florida State commit was invited to attend the prestigious Main Event, set for September 29-October 1.

Accepting was a no-brainer for the 2024 grad class prospect.

“Life did not take me this route for whatever reason until now, but I’ve heard great things about this event and I’m extremely grateful and excited to be part of it,” Velez said.

A versatile player who is expected to man the middle infield for the White Team in Boston, Velez has the tools to handle himself anywhere on the diamond, and according to his most recent scouting report, has “bat to ball skills with pitch recognition and plate discipline, and some extra base strength that keeps pitchers honest.”

Since his big showing at the Area Code Games — one in which fellow Main Eventer Bryce Navarre also had a stunning performance following his recommendation to that event by Booth and the FSS staff — Velez has been putting in the work to get ready for the big stage.

“I’ve been working on getting stronger and continuing improving my skills and my game to another level,” he said.

An Orlando native, Velez says he’s excited to put that work into action on the big stage, as well as to show the big-league teams that’ll be represented in the stands with some of their top scouts and execs that he’ll be able to handle himself at the next levels.

“The Green Monster has me thinking,” he said. “The history of the park and knowing that so many great players performed there; it’s just an honor…I want them to know that I love and respect this game as much as they do.”
