2023 MLB DRAFT: Darnell Parker, Jr., SS — Nansemond River (VA)

A Virginia native with a commitment to Wichita State, Darnell Parker is a disciplined hitter who draws headlines for his ability in the middle of the infield on defense. The former IMG Academy standout brings athleticism to the next level with a six-foot-one, 185-pound frame that might be able to produce a bit more power as he fills out.

FSS Event History: Parker worked his way up through the proven FSS process, starting out at a Regional Combine in Florida back in 2021 and then showing out at the Underclass Combine several months later. He parlayed a strong showing the following year at the National Combine into a trip to Fenway Park for the Main Event, and then with the rest of the “Goon Squad” in the Dominican Republic for the inaugural Caribbean Classic. Parker was an on-base machine at the Main Event, reaching in four of his seven plate appearances.

Current Ranking in Joe Doyle’s FSS Plus Top 600: 286

Joe Doyle on Parker:

Parker is a smooth operator on the dirt with some bounce to his step and explosive actions across the diamond. He projects to stick at shortstop where his tools really play. Parker has some bat speed and has added some physicality this winter. He projects a hit-over-power bat. He’s an average runner.
