One of the best thing about this gig is being able to go from the big- league stadium to the far-from-the-big-leagues and the next wave of prospective talent.
This trip took me to Kamloops, BC, and the now almost-30 years of the Best of the West, where some of the best talent in Canada was on display. It was great getting to see some good players who have or will have Future Stars Series ties. Had some fun with this one.
Take a walk with me.
Future Stars Series Baseball League Unveiled
FULL Future Stars Series Event Schedule
1. Jordan Taylor, RHP (2025) — HPP Tigers
Taylor is a physical right-hander with natural angle and advanced deception in his delivery. His fastball touches 93 mph and features both sink and cut, making it a tough pitch to square up.
Taylor keeps hitters off balance with a repertoire that offers movement in multiple directions—nothing he throws is straight. Profiles as a starter with the tools to navigate a lineup multiple times.
2. Nathan Belle, CF (2025) — HPP Tigers
Bell is a dynamic athlete and plus defender with game-changing speed and strength. A true power runner, he impacts the game on both sides of the ball, showing the tools to be a difference-maker at the next level.
With his explosive athleticism and defensive polish, Bell projects as a future early-round draft pick.
3. Easton Kitura, 3B (2026) — Vauxhall Academy
Kintura flat-out hits and is built for the position. He profiles offensively with advanced barrel feel and consistently competitive at-bats, while also showing the actions and instincts of a plus defender. His arm works easy across the diamond, and he brings energy and impact on the basepaths.
High-motor, hustle-type player who leaves his mark in all phases of the game.
4. Tim Piasentin, OF (2025) — Okotoks Dawgs
Piasentin is a physical, corner-profile bat with big raw power that serves as his clear carrying tool. He defends enough to stick at a corner spot and brings a hustle mentality to the field.
An average runner, Piasentin makes his biggest impact in the box, where his strength and bat speed give him the potential to do serious damage.
5. Tommy Hanger, IF (2025) — HPP Tigers
Hanger is a true baseball player who draws comparisons to Kolton Wong with his versatility and instincts. He can play all over the dirt and likely hold his own in the outfield if needed. The carrying tool is the bat—it’s a true 60 hit tool with advanced barrel control and feel for the zone.
A plus runner and high-IQ player, Hanger brings energy, leadership, and a winning presence to any roster.
6. Adyn Schell, IF (2025) — HPP Tigers
Schell is a true two-way talent with the ability to contribute both on the mound and in the field. Defensively, he can handle third base with ease and provide reliable help at second.
His versatility, athleticism, and feel for the game make him a valuable asset with upside on both sides of the ball.
7. Oscar Leah, OF (2026) — Langley Blaze
Leah is a twitchy athlete and plus runner who draws early comparisons to Marvin Benard. He can really hit, showing advanced feel for the barrel and consistent impact. The arm already grades out at a 60 and could tick up to a 70 as he matures.
A true baseball player with strong instincts, Lee profiles as a center fielder with top-of-the-order potential and defensive upside.
8. Reid Clague, LHP (2025) — Langley Blaze
Clague is a touch-and-feel left-hander with natural pitchability and a true left-handed presence on the mound. He works comfortably in the low 90s, touching 92 mph with his fastball, and fills up the zone as a consistent strike-thrower.
He shows a well-shaped breaking ball and advanced feel for a changeup, giving him a complete mix and the tools to navigate lineups with rhythm and tempo.
9. Taye Thierman, C (2027) — Okotoks Dawgs
Thierman is an upside catcher with an advanced bat and real presence in the box at an early age. He shows soft hands behind the plate with an easy, efficient catch-and-throw operation. There’s still physical growth ahead, and it’ll be interesting to see how he fills out, but the foundation is strong.
Offensively, the bat draws early comparisons to A.J. Pierzynski, though Thierman is already a more refined defender than Pierzynski was at the same stage. High-ceiling backstop with impact potential on both sides of the ball.
10. Quincy Jenkins, SS (2026) — Okotoks Dawgs
Jenkins is a twitchy middle infielder out of Okotoks Academy who brings energy and athleticism to the field. He draws comparisons to Pokey Reese with his quickness, instincts, and overall feel for the game. Jenkins is going to hit and will be a threat on the bases with his speed and timing. While he likely settles in at second base long term, he’s capable of helping at shortstop when needed. Quick around the bag with good hands and reliable actions.
11. Calum Andersen, RHP (2027) — Vauxhall Academy
Andersen is a right-hander with impressive projection and upside. He’s a strike-thrower with solid command and a feel for a breaking ball, showing the makings of a well-rounded repertoire.
Andersen has a chance to throw really hard as he matures physically, making him a high-ceiling prospect with significant potential on the mound.
12. Ramsey Chung, IF (2027) — HPP Tigers
Chung is a versatile baseball player who brings a competitive edge to every aspect of the game. On the mound, his fastball touches 90 mph when he’s at his best, and defensively, he plays with the same intensity. At the plate, he consistently works good at-bats, showing a winning mentality.
Chung’s speed and ability to play multiple positions give him value as a fill-in player wherever needed. His style of play draws comparisons to the former Pirates utility man, Jung Ho Kang, with his grit, adaptability, and consistent effort.
13. Quinn Lightfoot, OF (2026) — HPP Tigers
Lightfoot is an electric athlete with massive upside when everything clicks. He has a Dave Winfield-type frame, with the potential for big power and a plus arm. At his best, he’s a consistent threat at the plate, making hard contact and showing feel for hitting.
When locked in, Lightfoot’s combination of power and bat speed stands out, reminiscent of Alex Rios at times. With continued development, he has the chance to be a dynamic impact player with both offensive and defensive upside.
14. Damarcus Rideout-Carter, RHP (2027) — HPP Tigers
Rideout-Carter has a dynamic arm that reminds me of Carl Edwards Jr., with a fluid feel for pitching and a big arm that projects to get even faster as he matures. He already shows advanced feel for a breaking ball and consistently throws strikes, with a competitive edge on the mound.
While health will be key to his development, when Carter is on the mound and healthy, he’s a very intriguing prospect with significant upside.
15. Zij Mina, 3B (2026) — HPP Tigers
Mina is a bat-first prospect with the potential to develop into a solid corner infielder. His offensive profile is strong, with the potential to be a 55 hit tool and 55 power when all is said and done. Mena’s dedication to learning the game and continually improving is unmatched, with one of the best work ethics I’ve seen in a decade.
As he continues to evolve, he has the potential to be a reliable impact bat in the lineup.
