The New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series recently held a JUCO Regional at The University of Kansas. Here’s a look at some of the data standouts from the event, held on September 12-13.
Maximum Fastball Velocity — Cade Miller (Iowa Western), 93.7 MPH)
Although five pitchers crossed the 93 miles per hour threshold, it was Iowa Western sophomore righty Cade Miller who led the way with a 93.7 MPH fastball during his outing at our event. An imposing presence at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Miller is coming off a freshman year in which he went 5-0 with one save over 13 appearances (eight starts) and 37 strikeouts over 38.2 innings of work.
Our scouts see Miller as a “two pitch power reliever who attacks the zone…who could start as a backend guy, possible two pitch power reliever.” It was a fastball/slider mix for Miller, and our scouts would like to see the development of a changeup if he wishes to continue as a starter, but believe he can play at the next level regardless.
Average Fastball Velocity — Beau Bayouth (Cloud County), 91.8 MPH
Bayouth finished just a tick above Miller for highest average fastball, averaging 91.8 miles per hour over eight heaters over the course of his outing. A 6-foot-1, 175-pound freshman righty arm out of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bayouth was another fastball-slider exclusive pitcher, but graded out well with our scouts saying he has a chance to “hit it big” if he continues on his development path.
His report says “the arm is fast and the slider is short and late, his fastball plays up and projects still to add 3-5 more mph; Beau attacks hitters with his 2 above average pitches and is not afraid to challenge a hitter.” For now, Bayouth looks like a two-pitch backend reliever.
Highest Fastball Spin Rate — Ryan Gleason (Iowa Western), 2,676 RPM
Gleason has an interesting frame here at 5-foot-11 and 215 pounds, and flashed a fastball-curveball-changeup over the course of his outing at our event. Also a high school football player and son of a former college baseball standout, Gleason is a frosh righty out of Shawnee, Kansas who projects as a potential middle relief option at the next level down the road. Our scouts would like to see him continue to develop that high-spin fastball to continue to pursue those opportunities at either the D1 or pro levels.
Highest Breaking Ball Spin Rate — Brett Hoelscher (Iowa Western) 2,958 RPM
An Iowa commit, Hoelscher was a fastball-slider-change guy in Kansas, but impressed scouts with a hard and late-breaking slider that generated a nearly 3k RPM spin rate to lead the way at our event. Scouts noted that Hoelscher also displayed good feel for the change, and feel he “will play at the next level.”
A sophomore southpaw, the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder is entering his sophomore season and coming off a campaign in which he struck out 33 batters in just 21.2 innings pitched, posting a 3-0 record along the way.

Best Strike Percentage — Ian Razak (Cloud County), 87.5%
Razak is a University of Oklahoma commit who flashed four pitches in Kansas; fastball, curveball, slider and change. A 6-foot-3, 185-pound sophomore lefty, the Kansas native was outstanding in his first collegiate season in 2026, posting an 8-0 record as well as one save and a 2.97 ERA over 15 outings. Our scouts noted Razak’s fast tempo delivery and ability to throw strikes, and see him “as a middle innings reliever, situational lefty to come in and get left-handed hitters out for sure, but potentially be tough on right-handed hitters as well with that back foot slider.”
I’m beyond blessed and excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and baseball career at the University of Oklahoma!
Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has helped me along the way. I’m super grateful and ready to get to work.
