With the 48th overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft, the Seattle Mariners selected shortstop Edwin Arroyo, who dazzled at the New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series powered by Program 15’s International Week event both in the field and at the plate.
Arroyo turned in one of the best defensive plays of the event at shortstop, and smacked a single in Game 2 at Fenway Park for the World Team as well.
“Arroyo for me is going to be as good as his motor allows him to be,” said Jeremy Booth, CEO and president of the Future Stars Series. “In other words, he’s going to decide for himself. It’s not going to be anyone else who’s going to dictate to him how good he can be. He can hit, he can defend, he can throw; he’s got a Marwin Gonzalez profile to me, which is a pretty good player. He can play everywhere and help you, occasionally with some power, occasionally with some hit. He’s a guy you can write in the lineup. To me, it’s all going to be up to him.”
