2023 MLB DRAFT: Boston Baro, SS — Capistrano Valley (CA)

One of several Trombly Baseball alums who are in contention to hear their names called in the first few rounds of the 2023 MLB Draft, Boston Baro is a UCLA commit who brings a well-rounded game to the table. The California native brings a solid presence from the left side at the plate, and is a polished middle infielder who could handle multiple spots at the next level.

FSS Event History: There are few players those at FSS would be more familiar with than Baro, who has been seen seemingly countless times with Trombly, at Regional Combines and multiple signature events. That run in the latter started with the Underclass Combine in 2020, and went all the way through this past year, where he went through the National Combine, Main Event and Caribbean Classic.

Current Ranking in Joe Doyle’s FSS Plus Top 600: 145

Joe Doyle on Baro:

Baro is a hit-first shortstop with a slick glove and the ability to make most throws on the run. He’s got smooth actions around the baseball and real feel for the second base bag on plays up the middle. Baro has an above average arm, maybe a touch more. He’s an average runner, though scouts expect that could tick up with added weight and proper physical development in the weight room. Baro doesn’t show much thunder in the bat at present, though he’s shown a strong approach at the plate. At this stage, it’s all about adding mass and strength. Scouts biggest concern with the profile is whether he’ll impact the baseball enough to be a consistent regular as a pro. Baro checks just about every other box you’re looking for in a prep shortstop.
