Colorado Rockies Top 30 Prospects 2023 Preseason

April 2, 2023

The Colorado Rockies have four straight losing seasons entering 2023 and have finished higher than third in the National League West just once since 2009.

The club’s development has been key to their success historically — Ubaldo Jimenez, Trevor Story, Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gonzalez, Matt Holliday — and they might be onto another run considering the top of their farm system.

Ages as of July 1, 2023

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
1 21 Zac Veen OF 60

Veen has big-time physical tools, including speed and power, and if he can hit for average and get on base it’s an impact player in the middle of the field.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
2 21 Ezequiel Tovar SS 60

He’s a bit of a free swinger, but has very good bat-to-ball skills, average raw power, and his carrying tool is a 70-grade glove at short.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
3 21 Drew Romo C 55

Romo has answered some questions at the plate in two seasons in the minors, suggesting he’s an everyday catcher with some offense to offer.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
4 20 Adael Amador SS 50

The switch hitter has tremendous natural hitting skills and has added strength and power to a profile already supporting a middle of the field regular.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
5 20 Benny Montgomery OF 50

Another impact athlete with plus run, arm, and range, with a shot at above-average power as the swing matures.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
6 22 Gabriel Hughes RHP 50

Hughes can throw enough strikes to let his plus fastball and three big-league secondaries play in a rotation role.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
7 22 Sterlin Thompson OF 45

Thompson’s best tool is his bat, but he’s still learning to generate backspin and may need to shorten up to make consistent contact.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
8 19 Jackson Cox RHP 45

Cox is an athletic right-hander with a bit of projection left in his 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame. The pure stuff and spin from an age perspective is loud.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
9 21 Warming Bernabel 3B 45

Bernabel projects to hit, but whether or not his power production fits at third base remains to be seen.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
10 22 Jordan Beck OF 45

Beck is a physical outfielder with huge raw power and the hitting chops to move quickly through the minors.
