It’s time to finally start taking a look at the data from the arms of Signature September.
Let’s start with our most advanced group, a look at the seniors from the tenth annual Main Event, held for the first time at Target Field in Minneapolis earlier last month. Shortened to two days due to rain for the first time ever, there was still no shortage of quality pitching that got to take the mound at the major-league home of the Minnesota Twins, and let’s take a look at some leaders in significant categories here.
Fastball Highest Velocity — Dominic Giammeta, 95.1 MPH
The University of Oklahoma commit passed the eye test and backed it up with the numbers on the data sheet as well; he led the way in both average fastball velocity (92.6 MPH) and highest fastball velocity over the course of a mostly dominant three-inning outing. Named the Co-Best Pitcher of the event honoree alongside Reid Traeger, Giammeta was one of five arms to crack the 93 MPH threshold during the weekend. Also making the list were Kade Luker (94.2), Casen Reedy (93.9), Harry “Chubb” Jones, Jr. (93.6) and Jack Vasquez (93.5)
Breaking Ball Highest Spin Rate — Mason Ellison, 2755 RPM
Ellison is perhaps a bit more under the radar on the national side, but that may soon change. A UConn commit based in New Hampshire, Ellison was up to 92 in Minnesota and has been up to 94 in past outings, but really popped with his spin rate on the breaker, flashing a high of 2755 RPM on his curveball. Ellison was one of seven arms to throw a breaking ball at over a 2400 RPM spin rate; he was joined by Traeger, Casen Reedy, Nolan Riviere, Keon Young, Cole Volion and Giammeta.
Changeup Lowest Spin Rate — Casen Reedy (pictured), 1058 RPM
Reedy is a Texas A&M commit who backed up a dazzling National Combine outing with a big showing at the Main Event. On essentially every pitching data leaderboard, he leads the way with a 1,058 RPM spin rate on his changeup, a number that would rank among the lowest among current big league arms. Per MLB Statcast, Nathan Eovaldi’s 961 RPM spin rate was the lowest on any changeup thrown during the 2025 season. Nick Kelley, Cooper Benjamin, Traeger and Luker all finished within the top five for lowest changeup spin rate in Minnesota.
