Miami Marlins Top 30 Prospects 2023 Preseason

April 6, 2023

The Miami Marlins don’t spend money, consistently comitting less to payroll than most other clubs in baseball, Having not ranked higher than No. 25 in roster spending since 2017 makes Kim Ng’s farm system an incessant focus.

The Fish have tons of pitching depth in the minors, including some big-time upside in their top few prospects, but the vast majority of their positional talent is at least a few years from helping.

Ages as of July 1, 2023

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
1 20 Eury Perez RHP 60

Perez is electric, with a huge fastball and two above-average secondaries leading his race through the minors.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
2 24 Max Meyer OF 55

Meyer’s 94-98 mph fastball and plus-plus slider project stardom, but there’s reliever risk here unless he finds a way to battle lefties better and throw consistent strikes.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
3 24 Jake Eder LHP 55

Eder missed 2022, but when healthy projects well,  even with a two-pitch arsenal, as long as his command gains steam prior to his arrival.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
4 21 Dax Fulton LHP 50

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound Fulton doesn’t throw hard, but his curveball and changeup are big-league quality and at 21 there’s still room for his physicality to help him add some velocity

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
5 19 Jacob Miller RHP 50

Miller is just getting started, but already displays two above-average breakers and his delivery and athleticism suggest above-average future command.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
6 20 Yiddi Cappe SS/3B 45

Cappe should be able to stay at shortstop thanks to soft hands, agility, and a plus arm, and there’s a lot to like about his swing, too.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
7 22 Jacob Berry 3B 45

Berry’s chances to stick at third base aren’t great, but the inverse is true about the bat, including 25-30 homer power and a shot to hit .300.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
8 24 Sixto Sánchez RHP 45

Sánchez hasn’t pitched in two years after shoulder problems led to surgery, but he showed up in camp in terrific shape, and has always had big velocity and a ridiculous changeup.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
9 20 Kahlil Watson SS 45

Watson is a good athlete with instincts and a power-over-hit swing that began to produce some pop in Class-A last summer.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
10 22 Jacob Amaya SS 45

Amaya lacks a carrying tool, but has shortstop to lean on in his trek to the majors.
