The Minnesota Twins are in compete mode, but for a club supposedly powered by the draft, sign, develop, and trade approach, the club has been leaning heavily toward the trade part of that process (Sonny Gray, Tyler Mahle, Pablo Lopez), as well as free agency (Carlos Correa, 6/$200M).
Still, the Minnesota roster is littered with homegrown talent, including Byron Buxton, Alex Kirillof, Nick Gordon, Trevor Larnach, Jose Miranda, and Ryan Jeffers, and more is on the way while the Twins battle for the division title.
Ages as of July 1, 2023
RANK | AGE | PLAYER | POS | OFP |
1 | 22 | Brooks Lee | SS | 60 |
Lee projects to hit for high average and could add above-average power, and he should be able to handle shortstop, at elast early in his career.
RANK | AGE | PLAYER | POS | OFP |
2 | 24 | Royce Lewis | SS | 50 |
Lewis flipped a switch last season, hitting for average and power in Triple-A and then again in a handful of games in the bigs.
RANK | AGE | PLAYER | POS | OFP |
3 | 20 | Emmanuel Rodriguez | OF | 50 |
Rodriguez is a solid athlete with a chance to hit for some power, but there’s a lot of swing-and-miss in his game and he;s coming off a season0ending knee injury that required surgery last June.
RANK | AGE | PLAYER | POS | OFP |
4 | 24 | Edouard Julien | 2B | 50 |
Julien knows the strike zone and has plus power, but his patience creates a lot of two-strike counts, and he’s merely passable at second base.
RANK | AGE | PLAYER | POS | OFP |
5 | 22 | Connor Prielipp | LHP | 45 |
An exciting lefty with a chance to move quickly, Prielipp touches the mid-90s with life and offers a plus slider.
RANK | AGE | PLAYER | POS | OFP |
6 | 24 | Simeon Woods Richardson | RHP | 45 |
The fastball is rather ordinary, but both breaking balls are valid and his changeup is his best pitch.
RANK | AGE | PLAYER | POS | OFP |
7 | 25 | Louie Varland | 25 | 45 |
Varland has a solid pitch mix and projectable command, and in a relief role the velocity (92-95), may play up.
RANK | AGE | PLAYER | POS | OFP |
8 | 20 | Jose Salas | SS | 45 |
Salas has no glaring weaknesses, backed by physical tools and a chance to hit and put up strong OBPs.
RANK | AGE | PLAYER | POS | OFP |
9 | 20 | Marco Raya | RHP | 45 |
Raya projects to command three pitches, and in shorter stints could use him arm speed to generate more fastball value.
RANK | AGE | PLAYER | POS | OFP |
10 | 22 | Tanner Schobel | 2B | 45 |
Schobel can run and play second base, but is probably a below-average bat and ultimately a utility player.
