The following is directly from the scouting notebook of Butch Baccala from the Area Code Underclass Games.
Jaxson Tweedt, OF (2028) — Chico High School (CA)
The ’28 grad projects to D1 baseball as an OBP monster. The left-handed hitting leadoff hitter carries a lot of swagger and belief in his ability to manage the strike zone, get on base thru hit or walk, then shows great rhythm in timing the pitcher’s delivery in stealing bases. I recorded a 3.12 stolen base time, which is well above average. Throwback type player, shows game awareness and instincts. Plays with a toughness that you don’t always see in a 16-yr-old.
Landon King, 2B (2028) — St Francis High School (CA)
Baseball Player. Projects out to be an eventual pro, but today another OBP monster and hit collector that will find his way to a Power 4 school. Tools-wise, besides bat, very efficient; hands and feet work on the infield, and he has enough arm to spell your everyday SS. Short to ball, aggressive swing, great 2-hole hitter that shows enough strength in swing to hit from the three hole as well. Instincts all over the field and aggressive baserunner. Winning type player that plays with great confidence.
Colton Fitzgibbon, CF (2028) — San Ramon Valley High School (CA)
Projects as an everyday CF. Quick twitch and extra gear in everything he does. Love his chance to play Gold Glove-type defense. Can run and throw and shows very good game awareness. Feel like he will be a 1-3 hole hitter. See an extra speed and acceleration thru his hands. Classic LH swing can really jam on the ball down. Really fun to watch run. Extra gear he has when needed. See as a Power 4 recruit. Everyone will want this type of natural ability and further chance to enhance ability with size and strength.
Kai Watanabe, C (2028) — Dos Pueblos High School (HI)
Power 4 schools will be lining up to get this backstop. Built low to the ground with great live ball actions, he shows above-average catching skills, blocking skills, and throwing skills. A tool package that already plays into skills in between the lines. The last catcher on the island that he reminds me of is a more offensive Dane Sardinha. Ran 4.18 from RH side. 92-95 mph exit velo speeds off bat, and he shows the approach to be a solid 2-hole hitter in today’s game. Fun to watch play; plays with great enthusiasm and speed in game.
Tyce Johnson, SS (2028) — Linfield Christian (CA)
Son of former big leaguer Reed Johnson. Power 4 guy that will eventually settle into professional baseball. Strong first step actions and instincts. Can get to all the body control plays and shows an eventual plus arm across the diamond. The defense is solid, but his swing and approach are SEXY. Quick twitch, speed hands and ability to center up the baseball. Plays with a good humbleness, and everywhere he has played has always been a performer. Will be a player that will be cross-checked by everyone.
Dru Wilson RHP/OF (2028) — Sierra Canyon School, CA
Grabbed my eye immediately in the hitting box. Advanced approach with Jeff Bagwell-type spread and strength in hands and barrel, evidenced by a bullet at 103 mph exit velocity. Spread out approach really knows how to take his hands thru the ball and just a different noise when it jumps off his barrel. The dude leaves a vapor trail when he hits it. Solid defender can catch the ball and throw with some arm strength. Everyone will be recruiting this bat. He who hits plays.
Jake Welch, SS (2028) — Lehi High School (UT)
Jack Wilson comp. First time laying eyes on this guy showed me the game awareness and actions to play SS. Really good at reading ball hops and getting angles thru baseball. Really played well between his feet and showed arm strength with a quick release. Plays with an enthusiasm you love to see at a premium position. Hits at top of order. Contact/hitter type that should be a run scorer and havoc creator. See a .250-type hitter once he goes thru the D1 school he chooses. Still a lot of room for growth in his impressive game. Big lights of the event didn’t bother him.
Fausto Dominguez, C (2029) —Â STPÂ Prep School (NY)
Electric-type feet and quickness behind the plate. Could hear in the stands the buzz when he threw a frozen rope in 1.87 with a 55 arm. Right on bag and the carry in the throw was upright and straight to 1B side of bag. Outstanding blocking angles and quickness to get around the baseball. Combines hands and works thru his knees; doesn’t try to do everything with his mitt. Extremely quick. Pitchers have to love to throw to him. Limited looks with the bat. So don’t want to write what my eyes haven’t seen enough of yet. But I’m in just on the defense at such a premium position.
Oliver Dauskurdas, OF (2028) — Oaks Christian High School (CA)
If exit velocity is your honey, then this big dude covers your face in it. Loud batter’s box presence. Nuclear missiles shoot off his center barrel from 100-104 mph in live at-bats. Short to the ball; hits thru his body well and shows plus ability seeing ball and hitting strikes. Didn’t see his BP but was told very controlled and loud. Like body type and controlled actions. What happens when he goes animal style on us. Chance to be a Dude-Dude.
Cooper Holland, 3B (2029) — Santa Margarita Catholic (NC)
A baby on the field with a bunch of 16-year-olds. Ryan McMahon look. Loved this kid’s ability and actions at 3B and his 55 arm. Great projection for future high-round pick as well as premium Power 4-type college ability. Upright tall stance; he gets his body into position to strike the baseball. See both a potential .270 hitter with 26-35 HR power. Big upside in scouting words.
Transitioning into leadership, he served as Vice President of Scouting for Program 15 Sports and the Future Stars Series and National Director of Scouting for Prospect Wire. Since 2019, he has served as President and Owner of Athlete911 Baseball.
