The Philadelphia Phillies went for bats early in the 2023 draft, including first-round pick Aidan Miller, a third baseman and right-handed hitter, at No. 27 overall.
The Phillies’ farm has big-time pitching on the way, but Andrew Painter just had UCL surgery after missing the first half of the season, and may not be back until 2025.
Mick Abel, the club’s first-round pick in 2020 is closing in, but hasn’t yet found his control in Double-A.
The Phillies are very much a veteran-oriented, win-now organization right now, but with Aaron Nola, Craig Kimbrel, Rhys Hoskins, the newly-acquired Michael Lorenzen all heading to free agency after the season, they may dip into the farm in some form for an answer or two.
