Cincinnati Reds Top 30 Prospects 2023 Preseason

April 3, 2023

Cincinnati has spent the past handful of seasons trading proven talent for prospects and now own one of the deeper farm systems in baseball.

The Reds have traded Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suarez, Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray, Tyler Mahle, and Raisel Iglesias to build a collection of young talent which may serve as the core on the next postseason team from the Queen City.

Ages as of July 1, 2023

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
1 21 Elly De La Cruz SS 55

If his ability to hit for average catches up to his raw physical gifts, the Reds have a superstar on their hands, one with huge power and speed.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
2 19 Edwin Arroyo SS 50

He’ll have to continue to add strength to support a swing designed for pull power from the left side, but Arroyo is average or better across the board from a tools standpoint, including shortstop defense.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
3 18 Cam Collier 3B 50

Many believe Collier was the steal of Round 1 last July with a polished swing, at least above-average power, and plenty of belief in the glove at the hot corner.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
4 21 Noelvi Marte 3B 50

Marte’s game is power and patience, suggesting even a .250 average makes him in everyday player at third base.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
5 23 Matt McLain 2B/SS 50

Led by a solid swing and understanding of the strike zone, McLain is a surefire middle infielder with speed, and could debut this season.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
6 24 Andrew Abbott LHP 50

Better control and an improved changeup could get Abbott to the majors in 2023.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
7 20 Chase Petty RHP 45

Petty’s arm speed is elite, producing big velocity and plus to plus-plus power slider to miss bats.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
8 23 Christian Encarnacion-Strand 1B/3B 45

He’s done nothing but hit since the Twins took him in Round 4 in 2021, and there may be a lot more power to come.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
9 24 Bryce Bonnin RHP 45

Bonnin plays the power game with his fastball, cutter, and slider, and his changeup has shown promise for a well-rounded arsenal.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
10 25 Brandon Williamson LHP 45

The data loves Williamson’s stuff, and he’s flashed mid-90s heat and two average or better breakers, but his velocity isn’t stable and his command inconsistent at best.
