2023 Future Stars Series Main Event player profile: David Hogg II

September 20, 2023

David Hogg II is no stranger to the amateur baseball circuit, but has more roots than most with the New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series.

An LSU commit who has done virtually everything imaginable at this level, Hogg was coming off an appearance at USA Baseball’s Player Development Program when he rushed down to Nashville to play as much as he could in the National Combine so he could compete for an opportunity to play at Fenway Park in the upcoming Main Event.

Mission accomplished.

The slick middle infielder has been a part of the Future Stars Series for the past two years now, first getting seen at the Dallas Regional Combine back in 2021 before going on to participate in multiple signature events, including the most recent two Underclass Elite events held first at the University of Central Florida and then in Frisco, Texas.

Asked to describe his FSS experience thus far, there was only one word that came to mind.

“Amazing,” Hogg said. “I have had the honor to learn from some of the best baseball minds in the world. Coach Jeremy (Booth) and his team are top notch and they know baseball.”

Despite a late arrival at the National Combine, Hogg still drew plenty of attention as one of the more intriguing and athletic players eligible for the upcoming 2024 MLB Draft, putting on a strong showing in limited action.

Hogg says since we last saw him, he’s been working on his consistency, as well as staying aggressive at the plate and on the basepaths, and is excited to show those improvements on the big stage from September 29-October 1 at the Main Event.

“Once in a lifetime experience at this age,” Hogg said. “Legends have played there, (I) can’t wait.”

With a packed section behind the plate full of scouts from many, if not all, major-league clubs as well as some top executives, Hogg also knows that this is a big opportunity to show what he can do in front of some of the industry’s finest.

His goal, however, is simple.

“(Show I’m an) all-around good baseball player with five tools to work with,” Hogg said.
