Los Angeles Angels Top 30 Prospects 2023 Preseason

April 4, 2023

The Los Angeles Angels haven’t made the postseason since 2014 — nine years and two GMs ago, and both executives (Jerry Dipoto, Billy Eppler) have made the playoffs with their new clubs.

Yes, they have Mike Trout. Yes, they have Shohei Ohtani. And yes, they have Anthony Rendon. It hasn’t been enough to date, sending current-GM Perry Minasian into pothole mode, adding short-term free agents to cover roster problems this past winter.

The farm system hasn’t made much of an difference on the mound of late, but Reid Detmers still has a chance to change that, and there is some depth on the farm, even if the impact is greatly marginal.

Ages as of July 1, 2023

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
1 24 Logan O’Hoppe C 50

Average or better in all areas except running, O’Hoppe is the Halos’ long-term backstop.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
2 20 Zach Neto SS 50

It’s not a pretty swing, but he covers the zone and can do little of everything.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
3 23 Chase Silseth RHP 50

Silseth’s above-average slider and splitter are set up by a plus fastball, and potentially held back by fringey command.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
4 23 Ky Bush LHP 50

The southpaw has projectable fastball value, two big-league breaking balls, and a changeup that could make it three solid secondaries in a starting role.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
5 20 Edgar Quero C 50

Quero could eventually join or even challenge O’Hoppe, led by quality hit and power abilities, if he completes his defensive development on the higher end.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
6 23 Sam Bachman RHP 45

Bachman probably ends up in the bullpen, but the fastball may be double-plus and the slider misses bats.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
7 22 Ben Joyce RHP 45

It’s an 80-grade fastball for Joyce, with command the road bock to a mid-rotation profile.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
8 19 Caden Dana RHP 45

Dana is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-hander with four pitches and a chance at more velocity as he moves through the minors.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
9 21 Werner Blakely 3B 40

There’s power potential with the right adustments, but his contact rates are a bit of a red flag thus far.

RANK AGE PLAYER POS OFP
10 19 Denzer Guzman SS 40

Guzmans chances to stick up the middle rely on his hands and efficiency, but how much he hits remains as big of a question entering 2023.
