2023 Future Stars Series Main Event player profile: Jaden Barfield

September 27, 2023

Name sound familiar?

It should.

As soon as Jaden Barfield found out he was heading to Fenway Park to play in the New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series Main Event, set for September 29-October 1, he couldn’t help but think about his famous, big-league All-Star relative.

“The most exciting thing about getting to play at Fenway is I get to play where my uncle, Jesse Barfield, played,” he said. “He played many great series against the Red Sox during his career playing with the Blue Jays and Yankees in the 80’s and early 90’s. Also my older brother’s old high school teammate, Conner Wong, plays his home games (there). Not to mention my all-time favorite Red Sox player David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz.”

Jaden brings a bit of a different look to the table, however, as he’s found exceptional success as a left-handed pitcher, so much so that he just announced his commitment to the University of Oklahoma. He’s set to pitch in relief for the White Team in the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader at Fenway, and says he’s enjoyed his time with the FSS thus far.

“The experience so far has been great,” he said. “Love meeting guys from different areas and getting to know them.”

Having focused on refining his mechanics this summer and already armed with a fastball that’s reached the low 90’s, another intriguing arm in the upcoming 2024 MLB Draft class is looking to make a big jump up the boards with his outing.

“I am looking forward to showing my competitiveness and to compete against some of the best in the class of 2024,” he said.
