As you’ve likely seen on New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series social media channels, there have been some big roster announcements regarding our signature international events.
Tuesday was no different, with the first reveal of some names of players you’ll see on the rosters of the upcoming World Combine presented by Draftline from Mexico and the Bahamas.
Let’s take a quick look at a handful of some Mexican-born players you can expect to see in Ocoee, Florida, from December 8-10 at the first installment of this event since its successful debut in 2020.
All of the players shown below advanced to the event from our Mexico International Combine, held at Gonzalez Academy in Tijuana in early September.
JAEL ROBERTO JAUREGUI ACEVES, C
HT/WT/BIRTH YEAR: 5-8, 200; 2009
Notes: Compact frame behind the plate with a strong arm…produced consistent barrels during BP from the right side of the plate.
LEONARDO VARGAS GARROBO, 3B
HT/WT/BIRTH YEAR: 6-1, 210; 2008
Notes: 6.7 60 in Mexico…plus athleticism given a now frame that doesn’t leave much room to add, but he inarguably looks the part…lefty bat that produced in the combine games.
SEBASTIAN OJEDA VALENZUELA, 3B
HT/WT/BIRTH YEAR: 5-9, 145; 2009
Notes: A little bit of a lighter frame here that produced quick, fluid actions at the hot corner. Won’t show much for a power profile here, but showed a solid hit tool overall.

AXEL GEOVANI MEDRANO RASCON (pictured), SS
HT/WT/BIRTH YEAR: 5-7, 130; 2010
Notes: Intriguing prospect in a smaller package here with room to grow, as Rascon just turned 15 this month…looks the part at short…potential for more impact at the plate as he continues to develop physically, but consistent contact from left side during BP
ELIAN ALFREDO NEVAREZ SANCHEZ, SS
HT/WT/BIRTH YEAR: 5-7, 163; 2009
Notes: Sturdy lower half provided foundation for slick actions on the dirt…showed some feel with the bat from the right side.
JOSE BERNARDO ROCHA ALIVA, OF
HT/WT/BIRTH YEAR: 5-7, 155; 2008
Notes: 6.8 60 in Mexico…handled himself well in the outfield…made consistent contact with a bit of a longer, timing-mechanism heavy swing from the right side.
JOSE FERNANDO ESTRELLA GARCIA, RHP
HT/WT/BIRTH YEAR: 6-3, 190; 2007
Notes: Little bit of a now body for Estrella, who has a little room to add to a frame that produced solid velo in Mexico. Showed solid command of multiple, and located the fastball well.

JORGE RODOLFO FIERRO MORA (pictured), RHP
HT/WT/BIRTH YEAR: 6-1, 170; 2009
Notes: Longer levers on a 6-foot-1 frame, flashed multiple pitches, and worked towards the top of the zone often.
