Naylor hits first MLB homer, while Hence and Snelling earn promotions

Bo Naylor continues to rack up the big league milestones.

And no, this isn’t about his viral, spinning throw from behind the dish to nail an attempted basestealer. On June 28, the 2017 International Week alum delivered the best game of his big league career to date, going 3-for-4 at the plate, including his first ever MLB homer.

The Canadian-born catcher put the Cleveland Guardians up 8-0 in the sixth inning in Kansas City against the Royals with his two-run shot to left-center field. Having already hit 13 home runs in Triple-A Columbus prior to his mid-June recall, and it would seem this one is the first of many.

Tink Hence, RHP — Springfield Cardinals (AA)

One of five FSS alums named to the Futures Game this past week alongside Tyler Soderstrom, Kyren Paris, Drew Gilbert and Mick Abel, Hence earned a promotion to Double-A Springfield after just 11 starts in High-A. The 2019 National Tournaments and International Week star posted a 2-1 record and 2.81 ERA to start the year, striking out 46 batters in 41 2/3 innings of work.

Robby Snelling, LHP — Fort Wayne TinCaps (A+)

There may be a Futures Game in Snelling’s future as well…that’s if he’s not in the big leagues by the next one. Still only 19 years old, the southpaw starter could move quickly through the system of the San Diego Padres, the organization that got a steal with the No. 39 overall pick in last year’s MLB Draft. Snelling dominated the Low-A level with Lake Elsinore, going 5-1 with a 1.57 ERA in 11 starts while putting up an impressive 1.01 WHIP along the way.
