The New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series is proud to announce that four alumni have been selected in the first round of the 2022 MLB Draft, tying a record set two years ago. In addition, Termarr Johnson’s selection at fourth overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates gives the Future Stars Series their highest ever draft pick of a player who’s come through one of our events.
There have now been 12 players who’ve come through the Future Stars Series who’ve been taken on the first day, including at least one player in each of the last five drafts.
This year, it was Johnson leading us off, as the 2021 Atlanta combine attendee went fourth overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was followed by what many are calling the steal of the Draft, with Cam Collier going at 18 to the Cincinnati Reds, with Cooper Hjerpe being taken four picks later by the St. Louis Cardinals, and Drew Gilbert coming off the board with the 28th overall selection by the Houston Astros.
In addition, Robby Snelling was selected with the last pick of Competitive Balance Round A by the San Diego Padres, which sets a new alumni record with five picks before the start of the traditional second round of the Draft.
