Javier Santos, who dazzled scouts at the 2021 Main Event at Citi Field, has been selected by the Cleveland Guardians with the 211st overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft, reuniting him in their organization with Daniel Espino, who also came out of Georgia Premier.
Santos racked up six strikeouts in Queens, including two of second-round pick Henry Bolte, and is regarded as one of the higher ceiling arms who was available in the Draft.
PICK ANALYSIS BY JEREMY BOOTH, CEO AND PRESIDENT OF THE NEW BALANCE BASEBALL FUTURE STARS SERIES: Javy’s got one of the best arms in the draft. He’s 19, he’s going to get started a little later than some of these other guys age-wise for where he’s coming out of high school, but he’s got to develop some feel. Big smile, great kid. But one minute he’s in the zone, next minute it’s off the backstop. We’ve got to find some consistency with him, but he has all the tools to become something pretty good.”
