Now that the New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series most recent trip to the Dominican Republic is firmly in the rear-view mirror — with plans already in place for a return, of course — it’s time to look back to our March visit and take a quick look at some of the standout players on each of the five teams who played over the two-day event, including the Red pitching-only squad.
Angel Lara (pictured, Bonifacio)
2028-29 signing eligible OF; 6-foot-3, 158 pounds, R/R
Lara was one of the highest graded players by our scouting staff from the Orange squad, with future 50 grades nearly entirely sweeping across his report. A 6.94 60-yard dash runner in El Naranjo, the 13-year-old outfielder projects to have a chance to be an everyday LF according to our scouting department, and his report read in part, “lean frame with long limbs…good strength projections to body…good rhythm and strength at the plate…clean stroke, ball comes off barrel well…should grow into some power from pull side gap to line.”
Snow Del Rosario (Aguero)
2028 OF; 6-4, 177, R/R
Del Rosario had a memorable first day in the DR, silencing the ballpark with several impactful rounds of batting practice that produced exit velos up to 96.5 MPH, good for third best at the event. This earned him two future 60’s on his report — raw power and power production — with our staff describing the juice in the bat as “all fields type power.” 15 years old, Del Rosario ran a 7.5 60 and has some work to do to add to a long, lean frame that has plenty of projection in it, as well to as to clean up some defensive fundamentals in our brief look at him in center field. He was written up as a future LF/1B with everyday MLB upside, and that checks out here as well.
Alberto Trinidad (Aguero)
2028 INF; 6-4, 160, R/R
Trinidad showed himself to be a potential versatile infield piece for someone down the road at our event in the DR, producing some line drive contact off the bat in our abbreviated look at him. Projected as a utility infielder by our scouts, the 15-year-old “flashed clean stroke with life in hands, and (the) ball jumps when barreled up,” as evidenced by some of the swings in the above video. As he continues to physically mature, there’s potential for more impact at the plate here.
Jacob Campusano (Tucans)
2029-30 INF; 5-7, 130, L/L
Like Lara, Campusano is just 13 years old, but currently has a frame that’s more reflective of that at just 5-7 and 130 pounds. That said, he impressed scouts with a strong stroke from the left side that produced exit velos approaching 90 (89.4 max) that are nothing to be sneezed at given where he’s at in his physical development. It’s a clean stroke that repeats with feel for the barrel, according to our scouts, one that has the potential to lead to a pro future.
