Cal Baptist Southpaw, FSS Alum Cody New emerging as 2026 MLB Draft prospect

November 13, 2025

“He is a phenomenal young man and teammate. Loyal and a true servant leader with an unmatched thirst and drive for improvement.”

A year ago, Cody New’s end-of-year stat line didn’t reflect the kind of potential that typically generates pro buzz. But in 2025, the left-hander from California Baptist University put it all together — and in the eyes of his coaches, the results were only part of the story.

New, a New Balance Future Stars Series alum, is establishing himself as a legitimate 2026 MLB Draft prospect after a breakout sophomore campaign that showcased both tangible growth on the mound and the intangibles evaluators crave.

From Frustration to Flourishing
New’s 2024 season was a statistical anomaly, and head coach Gary Adcock won’t deny it. “The jump from high school to college can be overwhelming,” Adcock said. “The game speeds up. There’s pressure, expectations. In 2025, Cody committed to slowing the game down — and the results followed.”

A key turning point came during a summer stint in Alaska. From that point through fall and winter, New doubled down on the CBU pitching routine. “He just stayed consistent, trusted the process,” said Adcock. “He built belief through repetition.”

Mechanical Refinement & Mindset Shift
Underneath New’s statistical turnaround was a reworked delivery. CBU’s staff focused on helping him delay rotation longer down the mound, making his motion more efficient and deceptive.

“There was a lot of adjustability work in his throwing,” Adcock explained. “He started incorporating a lot more athleticism into his catch play, rethinking his target zones, and adding a little extra power to his breaking stuff.”

New throws a four-pitch mix: fastball, slider, curveball, and changeup. The breaking pitches in particular showed improvement, with a harder, sharper look in 2025. That allowed him to attack hitters more confidently and, yes, throw more strikes — but it was the mental game that took the biggest leap.

The Intangibles of a Future Pro
Beyond the stuff and the stats, it’s who New is that stands out.

“He is a phenomenal young man and teammate,” said Adcock. “Loyal and a true servant leader with an unmatched thirst and drive for improvement.”

The 2026 draft is still a year away, but the arrow is pointing way up. With a mature presence, improved stuff, and a refined approach, Cody New has transformed from under-the-radar to undeniable—and he’s only just getting started.

FSS 2020 Scouting Report

New competed in the New Balance Future Stars Series 2020 National Championships out of Hesperia Christian School in California. He was just 15 years of age, but the FSS scouting staff saw long-term potential and physical projection.

Scout’s Notes
“Tall, thin/narrow frame with live actions. Lots of projection to build. Arm works and delivery are repeatable. High-3/4 release with good finish. Fastball works with some arm-side action. Breaking stuff has good rotation and will improve with added strength. Must develop the changeup. Competes and attacks the strike zone. Overall has good upside.”

More strikes, more swing-and-miss.

Another specific and significant area of improvement is New’s handling of left-handed batters:
2025: .200/.270/.229, 33% K, 5% BB, 4 HBP
2024: .317/.488/.429, 13% K, 14% BB, 9 HBP

Another step or two up the ladder in 2026 and New will become a name more people know — which means you should know him now.
