Future Stars Series announces 2025 Instructs staff

December 19, 2025

HOUSTON – The New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series is proud to announce the baseball development staff scheduled to be on site at Sam Houston High School near Lake Charles, Louisiana for the 2025 Instructs event. The group includes World Series champions, former MLB All Stars and longtime baseball professionals.

Bobby Evans and Jim Duquette, who have both served in special assistant to the president roles with the Future Stars Series for several years now, are also scheduled to attend; Evans won three World Series rings with the San Francisco Giants — with whom he’s currently an advisor to the President of Baseball Operations — in the 2010’s before being promoted to the GM position there, while Duquette has lengthy GM stints with both the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles and is currently one of the most well-respected analysts in sports media in roles with at MLB Network Radio on Sirius/XM, SNY, MASN and MLB Network.

Expected to also make an appearance is World Series Champion, MLB All-Star, and 1989 World Series MVP Dave Stewart. Stewart is the current Special Assistant to the Player Development Director for the Oakland Athletics. “Smoke” was one of the most feared pitchers of his day and amassed 168 major-league wins over a professional career that lasted over two decades as a player and has since continued on in coaching and executive roles.

CEO, founder, and President of Baseball Operations, Jeremy Booth, will oversee a deep staff headed to Louisiana that features decades upon decades of experience at every level of the game, with World Series winners, Olympians, and more represented in a group that will provide an incredible staff-to-player ratio on the field.

“Excellence starts with the people in the room,” Booth said. “When your field staff is built on talent, expertise, and relentless drive—and they genuinely want to be together—you create cohesion. That cohesion turns information into action, action into development, and development into real advantage.”

Robbie Moen, Director of Player Personnel, is a Hall of Famer at the University of Arizona and spent 11 years in collegiate baseball as an assistant coach for the University of Arizona, Kansas State University, and Loyola Marymount University. A former Tampa Bay Devil Rays scout in Southern California who signed Kean Wong, Steven Tinoco, and Jake Thompson, among others, Moen hit .402 for the University of Arizona in 1991 and finished his collegiate career second in school history in doubles (63) and fifth in RBI (185), eventually playing professionally in the Marlins organization.

Anthony Perry, Director of Baseball Operations, is the current associate director of athletics at Fisher College (NAIA) and spent 16 years in collegiate baseball as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach for Fisher College and Rivier University. The first student-athlete to sign a professional contract from Fisher College, he spent nine years of professional baseball experience as a player or staff member and is an Atlantic League folk hero in both Nashua and Southern Maryland.

Jason Stein, Director of Hitting, is a baseball lifer with a fascinating resume that includes 11 years in the big leagues as an assistant hitting coach with the now-Cleveland Guardians and Texas Rangers, where he worked with Major League All-Stars such as Shin-Soo Choo, Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis, Francisco Lindor, and Elvis Andrus, among countless others. A coach, instructor, scout, evaluator, and player for almost 30 years – many of those in professional baseball – Stein is also the son of a former Major Leaguer, Texas Rangers & Seattle Mariners infielder, and minor league manager Bill Stein, who still holds the American League record for most consecutive pinch hits. The elder Stein spent 30 years in professional baseball as well.

Josh Zeid, Director of Pitching, enjoyed a lengthy professional career that took him all the way to the big leagues, where he made 48 appearances over two seasons with the Houston Astros in 2013-14. Originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 10th round out of Tulane, he also pitched collegiately at Vanderbilt, the recent host of our National Combine. The big right-handed pitcher is best known for his time later in his career with Team Israel, where he earned All-World Baseball Classic team honors and competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He compiled 54 professional wins over nine seasons in the Phillies, Astros, Detroit Tigers, New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals systems, as well as stops in independent baseball and overseas, and recorded 744 strikeouts over that time, perhaps most notably being the first pitcher to ever get Bryce Harper out in professional baseball during their time in the Arizona Fall League in 2010.

Carlos Valera, National Catching Coordinator, has a bevy of coaching experience to his credit, including recent times with USA Baseball in their Athlete Development Program. After playing collegiately at Western Nebraska Community College, Varela’s work in the high school ranks caught the attention of many; he worked closely with Kahlil Watson before his first-round selection in the MLB Draft as an assistant coach, and then took over the Wake Forest HS program in 2022, where he won back-to-back-to-back Coach of the Year honors.

Jared Wells, Pitching Instructor, is a former big-leaguer with time at the game’s highest level with both the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners. Wells represented his country with USA Baseball over a 12-year professional career, and currently runs the Expos Baseball program, which has competed in Future Stars Series events for years now and produced multiple players who have played big roles at signature events. That includes his son, Fletcher, who played in the Fresh 50 the last two years and attended the inaugural Instructs event last year in Corpus Christi.

Kendall Korbal, Pitching Instructor, was drafted by the San Diego Padres out of Blinn College following transferring there from Arkansas, and is a current instructor at Houston Christian High School and Banditos Baseball Club. An accomplished coach at the amateur level, Korbal was taken by San Diego in the 21st round back in 2009.

Manny Delcarmen, Pitching Instructor, is a World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox in 2007 and co-founder of the Boston Athletic Academy, which has produced numerous players for this year’s FSS signature events. A second-round pick of the Sox in 2000, Delcarmen enjoyed a six-year big-league career with Boston and the Colorado Rockies and pitched professionally for 18 years in seven different organizations.

John Lindsey II, Hitting/First Base Instructor, like Wells, will be making his second consecutive appearance coaching at Instructs, and will also be accompanied by his son, John Lindsey III, a UAB commit who recently starred in the Main Event. Lindsey II authored one of the best stories in baseball in 2010, having spent 16 years in the minors before finally making his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers, for whom he recorded his first big league hit on September 12, 2010.

Jason Tyner, Outfield/Baserunning/Base Stealing Instructor, was a highly touted prospect for the New York Mets coming up through the ranks, taken 21st overall back in 1998 out of Texas A&M. The owner of a 12-year professional career in which he stole an astounding 260 bases, including 61 at the big-league level for the Mets, then-Devil Rays, Twins and then-Indians, he made multiple starts in the 2006 ALDS for Minnesota, reaching base three times in two games, stealing a base along the way.

Jason Belcher, Hitting/Catching Instructor, is an Atlantic League-championship-winning catcher whose son, Nolan, played in the Main Event in 2024 and is set for his redshirt freshman season at Kent State. A career .288 hitter, the Arkansas native won the first back-to-back titles in Somerset Patriots history with the then-independent franchise in 2008 and 2009 and returned for his final season as a player the following year, earning an All-Star Game appearance in 2010.

Travis Coleman, International Scouting Supervisor and Infield Instructor, recently joined the Future Stars Series in a scouting role and helped the Houston Astros win a World Series in 2017 as a scouting supervisor. A four-year letterwinner as a player at Auburn, Coleman has also previously worked for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, and MLB Scouting Bureau, and co-owns The Prospect Lab, which has participated in past FSS signature events and helped produce signature event standouts like current Milwaukee Brewers farmhand Ma’Kale Holden.

Jim Dolan, Catching Instructor, is a long-time instructor with the Future Stars Series and serves as Wow Factor Nation TX National Director, as well as running JKD Athletics Player Development. His sons, Jack and John, have both emerged onto the scene with FSS this year, with the latter playing at this year’s Main Event.

John Hampton, Roving Instructor, Signature Event Bench Coach and North Texas Regional Director, is an assistant coach at Fort Worth Christian School and has also provided coaching and instruction at several FSS events. His son, Hunter, debuted at FSS events this past summer, when he participated in both the Underclass Combine down in Houston and then earned his way to the Fresh 50 at Hartford’s Dunkin Park.
