2023 MLB DRAFT: CJ Kayfus, 1B — Miami

CJ Kayfus showed constant improvement during his collegiate career, including a junior year in which he set new career highs in homers (13) and walks (46). The first baseman and University of Miami star also produced a career best 1.044 OPS this year, making him an even more intriguing prospect for a club in the first five rounds or so.

FSS Event History: Kayfus is one of several players from the Scorpions team that set the travel ball world on fire at the 2019 National Tournaments who elected to go the college route and are now Draft eligible once again, including Michael Brooks and, of course, Dylan Crews. Kayfus was first seen at the Scorpions Scout Day several months prior to that.

Current Ranking in Joe Doyle’s FSS Plus Top 600: 75

Joe Doyle on Kayfus:

Kayfus is an undersized first base/outfield profile with sublime bat-to-ball skills and sneaky juice considering his size, some calling it average power with consistent barrel metrics. If he can prove to scouts he can handle more outfield in his future, his stock could soar. An above average runner, Kayfus can be an asset on the base paths as well. Ultimately, we’re talking about a mature hitter here with more walks than punchouts for much of his college career and a guy that can fill up a baseball card.
