With the 169th overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft, the Texas Rangers selected New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series alum Tommy Specht.
Specht was one of the standouts at last year’s Main Event at Citi Field, delivering a huge two-run single early in the event.
PICK ANALYSIS BY JEREMY BOOTH, CEO AND PRESIDENT OF THE NEW BALANCE BASEBALL FUTURE STARS SERIES: “Tommy is another upside play where I think if he can get around the right people, has a chance to be something pretty special. The tools are all there. I do question some of the environment he’s had at different points, I think he’s had some advice that can be questioned and challenged. Some things that may have limited his value in the draft. But I do think Texas taking him, they’re pairing him with Ian Moller from the same city, I think those guys have a pretty good idea of what they’re getting in him. Sky’s the limit. Great kid, great family. He’s got some people around him that haven’t guided him properly, and he needs to shake that.
