The New Balance Future Stars Series Caribbean Classic gets underway January 16 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and the event’s return lasts four days, pitting rosters from numerous Latin American and Caribbean countries, as well as a full roster of U.S. players.

In the first iteration of the Classic in 2022, the likes of Cooper PrattRaudi RodriguezBoston BaroZion RoseTre PhelpsLuke McNeillie, and Alex Kranzler competed as high school standouts before moving on to pro ball or big-time college baseball.

Thus far, we’ve dug into the following players:

Brody Crane is a 6-foot, 215-pound right-hander out of Neosho High School in Missouri. He’s up to 95 mph with a heavy ball and has shown two quality and distinct breaking balls in a low-70s curveball and low-80s slider.

Crane averaged 92.5 mph on his fastball in the Main Event at Globe Life Field, and flashed a changeup that may help him remain in a starting role. He induced a 22.2% swinging-strike rate.

Crane, among the top right-handed high school pitchers in the country,  isn’t a one-time wonder at NBFSS events. He was among the elite arms at the National Combine in July, earning him an easy invite to the Main Event in October.

There, he showed the ability to manipulate the fastball, generating both two-seam and four-seam shapes, and working effectively to both sides of the plate as well as the entire vertical zone.

He repeats his three-quarter delivery and creates some deception with his front side and arm path.

Future Stars Series scouts like his slider more than his curveball, both now and in the future, and project it as a solid-average to plus pitch.

Crane is newly committed to Arkansas for next fall, where he’ll work with pitching coach Matt Hobbs. Hobbs has been at the helm of a pitching program that has developed eight eventual MLB Draft picks selected in the top 3 Rounds alone since 2020, including two from 2025 in Zach Root and Gage Wood. The year prior, lefty Hagen Smith went No. 5 overall to the Chicago White Sox.
