Drew Gilbert, who first stood out as a member of the Minnesota Blizzard at the 2017 and 2018 New Balance Baseball Future Stars Series 2019 class National Tournaments and then starred as a two-way player at International Week later that year, has been selected by the Houston Astros with 28th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.
Gilbert has since gone on to become a complete player at The University of Tennessee, and should be an impact player very quickly for the Astros moving forward.
PICK ANALYSIS BY JEREMY BOOTH, CEO AND PRESIDENT OF THE NEW BALANCE BASEBALL FUTURE STARS SERIES: Drew has always had kind of an outgoing personality, very ironic he ends up in Houston. I’ll get a chance to be at his press conference if they have one, and by the way, welcome to the Astros to the domestic draft party that we have over here called the Future Stars Series. Drew is the type of guy that doesn’t care what anybody thinks. His advisor is pretty similar with that, so it’s a personality fit across the board. He’s going to do fine here in Houston…good job by the staff in selecting somebody that can handle some of the scrutiny that comes with being an Astro.
