In the first iteration of the Classic in 2022, the likes of Cooper PrattRaudi RodriguezBoston BaroZion RoseTre PhelpsLuke McNeillie, and Alex Kranzler competed as high school standouts before moving on to pro ball or big-time college baseball.

Thus far, we’ve dug into the following players from this year’s U.S. Roster:

Jason Phillips, a right-hander pitcher and infielder from Plano, Illinois, jumped onto the Future Stars Series radar at our Regional Combine in Chicago ion February of 2023. He was just 15 years of age, but stood out for his ability to generate consistent tempo and tilt, and worked the bottom of the zone well. He showed advanced feel on the mound.

Phillips stayed with NBFSS into the 2023 Underclass Combine and Underclass Premier, performing as both a hitter and pitcher. His slider developed some sweep, and his swing produced impact power results.

By the time the summer of 2024 came, Phillips was sitting 90-93 mph in the Future Stars Series Underclass Combine, throwing four pitches, including a changeup with fade and sink.

In this past October’s Main Event at Globe Life Field, it was more of the same from Phillips, including tight spin on the slider and solid Induced Vertical Break with the fastball.

Phillips is headed for Kennesaw State next fall to work with head coach Ryan Coe and pitching coach Matthew Passauer, and he’ll be in the Dominican Republic in January to compete in the Caribbean Classic next month.
